General Hospital viewers are witnessing a growing animosity between Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Giovanni "Gio" Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza). This hostility, however, appears to be a reiteration of a plot General Hospital often employs, where characters with clandestine familial ties unknowingly develop a dislike for each other. In this case, Gio is Dante's secret son, and the only characters aware of this are Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer), Gloria Cerullo (Ellen Travolta), and lawyer Martin Gray (Michael E Knight). 

General Hospital sees Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins) seems close to uncovering this secret. Dante's sudden resentment towards Gio feels forced and out of character, bearing similarities to past plotlines where characters like Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), and Carly Corinthos Spencer (Laura Wright) found themselves in similar situations. The show's creators seem to be revisiting this narrative technique for the fifth time, prompting discussions among fans about the lack of original storylines on the ABC soap opera.
