Days of our Lives fans continue to mourn the untimely passing of actor Drake Hogestyn, known for portraying the iconic character, John Black. His family released a heartfelt statement revealing his long battle with pancreatic cancer. His co-stars, including Stephen Nichols (Patch) and Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans), paid tribute to his exceptional storytelling skills and his unfaltering respect for everyone on set. Hogestyn's death certificate indicated that vomiting, dehydration, and whole-body toxicity contributed to his passing. NBC is planning an off-screen death and tribute for John Black, with a potential date around July 2025. 

DOOL sees several characters with strong ties to Black, including Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) and Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso), Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer Devereaux (Melissa Reeves), Shane Donovan, and Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) are slated for a return in June 2025. This timing has led fans to speculate that this comeback might coincide with the farewell to Drake Hogestyn's beloved character. The show's writers were reportedly aware of Hogestyn's terminal illness well in advance, potentially allowing for an expedited tribute.
